It’s nurse’s day. Today is the day of angels in the world of service. This day is a day to remember and thank the angels of God on earth. World Nurses Day was first celebrated in October 1954.
In this universe, there will never be a single nurse who has never had the services of a nurse. Even in a small fever, there are angels in the hospital wards. With a loving smile. Those who come with the comforting word that no matter how sick they are, this is not worth it.
It is these angels who bring joy and radiance to the hospital life in the midst of a drug and a tiring Dettol. The people of the world call them Sister, wrapped in pearly garments with a smile full of syringes and dripsets in their hands. Most of them are taught to be optimistic and forget about pain. Aren’t they the angels of the earth?
World Nurses Day is celebrated as the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the inventor of modern hospitality, which the world has called the “Lady With a Lamp”
Today, Nurses Day is celebrated with a special note in memory of the great woman Florence Nightingale, who has treated the wounded soldiers with a small lamp and has set the example for the whole world.
Following the pattern of the nightingale, who was wounded by the wounded soldiers with the little lamp in hand, they are fighting today in a plastic suit, that does not even have any ventilation due to Covid-19.
Nightingale was born on May 12, 1820. Florence Nightingale has transformed modern nursing into a virtue of compassion and dedication.
Today Malayalee women are making their presence in the hospitality industry. Malayalee nurses throughout the world perform a commendable service in their work. The history of International Nurses Day also tells the history of Kerala’s hospitality industry.
Nurses are honored for their services by distributing gifts and flowers to various hospitals. While most countries are limited to name-calling in most countries, Nurses Day is a week-long program from May 6 to 12 in Canada and the United States.
Each of us should recognize that nurses’ service is not just a matter of life and career but of commitment to patients. Every nursing student should come out with the will and the purity to not only look for a good job but also to comfort those who are in pain.
